4. Click Download (PDF) to begin the ordering process
5. Select your geographical location and click Go to Shopping Cart
6. If you have another item to purchase, click Continue Shopping and repeat these steps above

After your credit card has been authorized, a "Go To My PDF Download" link will appear on your screen. This link will allow you to save the standard(s) to your PC. You will also receive a confirmation of the order by e-mail which contains a link that will provide access to the standard(s) for 24 hours.

What web browsers will work in the ASTM Store?
The ASTM Store and on-line ordering system utilizes the latest Java programming languages. Older web browsers cannot read Javascript and will not be able to access all areas of the Store or submit on-line orders. To successfully navigate the ASTM Store you will need a minimum of Netscape 4.61, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, or AOL Browser 6.0. For Mac users, the store does support Mac OSX using Safari 1.2.4 or higher.

If you are using an open-source web browser such as Mozilla and are experiencing problems submitting an order please follow the instructions below:

1. Open Mozilla, log on, and minimize to your task bar.
2. Open Internet Explorer. If you do not have Internet Explorer on your Desktop it is usually located by choosing the Start Button, go to Programs and should be listed in your Programs menu or Microsoft Software.
3. Once Internet Explorer has been opened proceed to the ASTM website at http://www.astm.org and place your order as you normally would.

If you experience problems using any of the above recommended versions, please contact the ASTM support desk by submitting a support request at http://www.astm.org/supportrequest.htm for further assistance.

I am receiving the error message: "forms eng will produce no ack". What is the problem?
The problem is related to the version of web browser you are running. Older web browsers cannot read the Java and JavaScript languages embedded in the ASTM Store programming. Because of this, you will see Java-related errors and will not be able to access all areas of the Store or submit on-line orders. To successfully navigate the ASTM Store you will need a minimum of Netscape 4.61, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, or AOL Browser 6.0.

If I have a question that I am unable to answer by troubleshooting from my desktop, what should I do?
You can submit a Support Request describing the details of the problem you are experiencing at: http://www.astm.org/supportrequest.htm.

A technical support representative will respond to your request as soon as possible.

If one page of my PDF file is difficult to read is there some way to download one individual page?
No. It will be necessary to re-download the entire PDF file. You can do this by accessing the download link at the bottom of your email receipt (within 24 hours of ordering) or you can contact technical support via an on-line Support Request and resolve the issue with a technical support representative.

Where can I get Adobe Acrobat Reader®?
You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader® from the Adobe web site: www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html

I do not understand how to install or use Adobe Acrobat®. Can you provide technical support for this?
ASTM does not provide technical support for Adobe Acrobat Reader®, browsers, installing plug-ins, or manipulating PDFs. However, Adobe offers on-line Customer Support at: www.adobe.com/supportservice/custsupport/main.html

Why am I having problems printing standards from PDF files?
ASTM does not provide support for Adobe Acrobat Reader®, however, the Adobe Web Site offers extensive Customer Support for their products. A resolution to this particular printing problem may be found at: http://www.adobe.com/support/products/readerprinting.html.

When I look at my monitor, the on-screen version of this document does not look very clear. Will it be clearer when I download it to my desktop?
Yes. The downloaded PDF version, when printed, will provide a higher resolution and clearer copy.

I've ordered successfully once. When I place a subsequent order, why does my shopping cart still contain the document from my first order?
If your shopping cart is holding onto information from a previous order, you have not correctly entered the shopping cart anew. This can be caused by bookmarking the site (or adding the site as a "Favorite") or placing an order and then returning to the Search page by hitting a succession of "Backs" on your browser. Both of these maneuvers can cause previous order information to remain cached in your browser.

To avoid this problem:

1. Do not access the ASTM Web Site from a "Bookmark" or "Favorite." Manually type in the URL www.astm.org.
2. If you have recently visited the web site and entered the ASTM Store--even if you didn't complete an order--it is always safest to do a Reload (Netscape) or Refresh (MS Internet Explorer) on your browser to clear the cache of any order data that remain in its cache memory.

Why is my order downloading as a file type MIME? I ordered a PDF file.
The files that ASTM makes available are uncompressed Adobe Acrobat PDF files, ready to view. However, certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs) automatically compress downloaded files into MIME files that are above a certain file size. This is especially true with larger, national ISPs such as AOL, MSN, Compuserve, etc. Some of ASTM's longer standards fall within this file size.

ASTM does not support file compression issues imposed by users' Internet Service Providers. For more information, contact your ISP and ask them about decompressing MIME files

The standard's PDF file looks fine on my screen, but I get odd errors when I print the document. What is wrong?
Certain versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader seem to cause printing errors unrelated to the viewable standard. These errors will often appear as large black circles or spots on the printed document, and do not appear on the screen in the electronic copy.

Newer versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader have corrected the printing problem. If you are experiencing printing errors, download a new copy of the latest Acrobat Reader at www.adobe.com, install the new Reader and print the PDF file again.

How long does it take to download a PDF document?
Downloading should begin immediately after you click on the download button. The amount of time to complete the download is dependent on several things: the size of the document in pages, the type of Internet connection you have and the Internet traffic at that time of day. If you are downloading a file during peak hours of Internet traffic (12:00 noon - 5:00 PM, US Eastern Standard Time), the download may take much longer than if you download it in the middle of the night.

Who should I contact for information about copying or distributing copies of ASTM standards?
For permission issues with regards to copying or distribution of ASTM standards, contact Ms. Kathe Hooper at 610-832-9634 or e-mail khooper@astm.org.

I am using Internet Explorer and I am unable to save my PDF download.
Internet Explorer will not allow you to save a PDF document that is currently open in the browser. To save the document, you must click your right mouse button on the "Click Here" to download link. This link is at the bottom of the "Thanks For Your Order" screen. Choose "Save Target As" to save the PDF. .
